13th Sparks Summers Sizzler, ACT

The 13th Sparks-Summers Sizzler was a great success thanks to the
players’ support, spirit & friendship.

There was a good turnout of 18 players which included new players in
their first tourney, most notably local Matt who finished equal fifth
with Jason. Weatherwise it was no sizzler with cool & overcast
morning conditions, light winds still cloudy & a little warmth with
humidity in the arvo. The forecast showers stayed in the surrounding
hills.

Tournament Review by Greg Sparksman

The 13th Sparks-Summers Sizzler was a great success thanks to the players’ support, spirit & friendship.

There was a good turnout of 18 players which included new players in their first tourney, most notably local Matt who finished equal fifth with Jason. Weatherwise it was no sizzler with cool & overcast morning conditions, light winds still cloudy & a little warmth with humidity in the arvo. The forecast showers stayed in the surrounding hills.

There was some sizzling DG action by many of the players, great birdie
putts & eagles on the long holes. The short aceable holes had some
good attempts, but none succeeded until the last hole of the day (my
dear oldest comrade in arms & co TD, Nick Summers, got his first
ace in a Eddison touney on the 18th basket. I had the pleasure &
pain to see this epic event & I luved every second of it!  My pain
came from being on equal score with Nick before the ace so the only way
to tie the oldies/GM group was to also ace the hole, I wilted under the
pressure (& the 2 weeks of course work) with a below average drive
& getting a par. Nick had extra reason to celebrate with his 1st
win over me after many years, ohhh the pain! I was silently glad i
didn’t have to do a playoff.).

The other mens divisions also had close contests with Martin catching
& overtaking Luke in Open, & Jason winning over Matt on the 4th
hole in the playoff for Advanced, when Matt put his approach OB. Sally
had a no pressure game & enjoyed her win especially her birdie on
the short nasty & narrow 10th.

The lunchtime putting games brought back a fun easy element to the
event, I think it helped the new players improve their focus &
putting skills, all got a visual class of the top players putting
styles. It was an enjoyable day & many prizes were awarded. The
first  Ring of Fire was won by Nick, the second by Martin. Martin also
won the 4 station putting comp. He collected the famous "heavy metal "
Tassie Titles t-shirt & the Limited Edition Dude disc the Dart as
prizes.

The famous (LE) DUDE disc "avair with wood" & plastic flower in
small wooden frame was awarded to Joe for getting the most wood on his
drives.  Of course Nick won the Ace pool money, a nice $56 to cover his
travel costs & a new disc from Sydney Flying Discs. Congrats to all
the players who came & experienced Edd’s heavy metal disc catchers.

Thanks to all the players who supported the event, especially those
interstate travellers, Sally, Oli, Luke, Martin, Jason, Ian, Nick &
Justin.
