Introduction Old

Important information about choosing, ordering and paying for your discs, and some wise words of advise.

About the discs

There are several manufacturers with a wide range of models that all
come in different weights, plastics, colours and prints. I’ve selected
a range of discs that I believe covers the needs for all players with
their various techniques and experience. Tell me how you throw and I’ll
tell you what to use. Please trust my advice.

Innova is by far the biggest producer of discs with a wide range of
discs that cover any player in any situation. Discraft has made several
models that have become very successful and popular.
There are three main categories of discs; understable, stable and
overstable. A stable disc flies straight when thrown flat with
reasonable speed. An overstable discs turns left towards the end of its
flight (righthanded backhand throw). An understable disc turns right.

Different manufacturers describe the level of stability in different ways – I’ve put them into the three basic categories.

A Few Tips Before you Choose

If you’ve experienced many of your throws fading off to the left,
you’ve either used a too heavy disc or a too stable disc – or
BOTH.  Therefore I recommend understable discs around 150 grams in
weight to all of you with that frustrating experience.

In general, new players want to use what the pros use and especially
the model that they throw the furthest. It’s not always a very good
idea – the difference in technique and speed is too big (but don’t
despair, you’ll get there)! You will gradually move to more stable and
heavier discs as you improve your technique. Same model, different
weight: the heavier the disc is, the more stable it is.

Stick to a few models and have a few back-ups in case you lose some.
The quality of the discs is so good nowadays that they rarely break.
Don’t putt with drivers, use a separate putter – both for better result
and for longer life for the driver.
