ADGTour Standings Update – June

Sydney put on its finest winter weather with a beautiful day of approximately 20 degrees for the inaugural Sydney Disc Golf Open. 22 competitors were ready to test their skills against a tight and technical course layout which boasted a miserly PAR of 55. Although the Sydney Disc Golf Club team were disappointed that the permanent baskets were not in the ground, the M14 portables stood up to the battering of our birdie-hungry disc golfers.  This ADG A-Tier National Tour Event saw some very close competition, with 3 out of 4 divisions being decided by 1 stroke!

In the Women’s Open division, Uai Stack (69, 70) and Sally Hill (73, 66) were tied after 2 rounds, and Sally won the first playoff hole and took the title.

In the Men’s Open division, Kurt Karlsson held a one shot lead over Albert Munoz after the first round. He stretched that to 2 shots after the first hole of the second round and that was as close that Albert was to get to Kurt. Kurt’s two excellent rounds of 48 and 48 ensured a victory by 3 shots from 2nd place Albert (49, 50) and Matthew Cutler (52, 48) was 1 shot back in third position after improving on his first round by 4 shots.

In the Men’s Masters division, Greg Sparksman held a three shot lead after the first round, but this was whittled away by eventual winner Mike Baldwin who won by one shot. Breaking Mike’s round into a series of 9 holes, he shot 28, 28, 29 & 27 and showed how important consistency is for your game.

In the Men’s Advanced Amateur division, Tim Keighley shot an outstanding 3 under par 52 in the first round to lead by seven strokes. In the second round it was Jonathon Jonas’ turn to score some birdies with a 2 under par 53 and snatched the title from Tim by one shot.

Highlights

Kurt Karlsson was the only person to shoot a bogey free round one, whilst for the second round Matthew Cutler and Andrew Dowdy achieved the same.

Recreational player Simon Pryde shot a competitive 63 and 64 on his first try of disc golf. All other recreational players shot a lower score in the second round, with the best improvement by Richard Moore who bettered his first round score by 13 strokes! Well done to all the recreational players, we hope to see you back on a course again soon!

In the second round Jason Howe scored a birdie on the tough par 4 hole #9. Hole #9 averaged 4.5 shots for the tournament.

In the first round holes 12 & 13 played the easiest averaging exactly their PAR of 3, and for the second round 13, 16 & 17 were the easiest averaging slightly over PAR at 3.2.
