Tournament Report

After setting up the course on Friday morning, it was time for the
doubles. A “random” draw saw the team of Luke Williams and Martin
Ryland-Adair score a 53 to be victorious over David Bandy and Kiwi
Cunningham with a 55. The team of Oliver Pauli and Jason McFarlane were
next with a 59 and Kingsley Flett and Greg Bowers brought up the rear
with a score of 60.

Saturday started out overcast and wet, but this did not affect the
disc golfers gathering at Newington Armory. A total of 19 players
comprising competitors from New South Wales, Western Australia,
Victoria, ACT, Sweden and the United States took part in this years’
Open.

After the first 18 holes using the Public Course tees, the leaders in
each division were Kurt Karlsson in the Open with a 47, Jason McFarlane
with 57 in the Mens Advanced, Kingsley Flett led the Masters with a 55
and Emilie Cameron was the best of the Ladies with 61.

The afternoon, though overcast, was still and saw the competitors
take on a mix of the long public holes with 9 new holes. This provided a
series of new challenges to all players, with Kurt Karlsson shooting
the best round of 54. At the end of the day the leaders in each division
after 36 holes were Kurt Karlsson in the Open with a two round total of
101. Jason McFarlane led the Mens Advanced with 124 and Kingsley Flett
still led the Masters with 120. Emilie Cameron remained the best of the
Ladies with 138.

Sunday dawned bright and sunny and all were ready to take on the
course. The morning round saw the following divisional leaders emerge.
In the Open Kurt Karlsson shot a 59 to take the lead by 4 shots on 160
from David Bandy who shot a 57 for a total of 164. Jason McFarlane
recorded a 65 for a total of 189, to be in a tie with Greg Bowers who
shot a 63 also for a total of 189. Kingsley Flett shot 63 to for a total
of 183 to lead Greg Sparksman by 12 on 195. Emilie Cameron was the best
of the ladies with a 70 for a total of 208 ahead of Sally Hill on 229.

After lunch and a further nine holes the winners in each division
were Jason McFarlane with a total of 222 in the Mens Advanced from Greg
Bowers on 225. Kingsley Flett with a total of 210 from Greg Sparksman on
226 in the Mens Masters. Emilie Cameron took out the Ladies with a
total of 242 from Sally Hill on 268.

The top four players in the open division then took part in a 9 hole
final. These were Kurt Karlsson on 185, David Bandy on 191, Martin
Ryland-Adair on 192 and Luke Williams on 197.

At the end of a tense, hard fought final involving some great golf
and much gnashing of teeth, David Bandy and Martin Ryland-Adair emerged
tied for first on 218, with Kurt Karlsson a further shot behind on 219
and Luke Williams in fourth on 226. David came out the winner on the
first playoff hole to take the Open Division.

Thanks to all the players from overseas, interstate and locally who
took part in this years event and helped to make it a very successful
tournament.
